The Musical Theater Department at PVHS
The musical theater department has significantly grown in recent years at Ponte Vedra High School. Courses offered to students interested in musical theater include Drama 1-4 and Musical Theater 1-4. Additionally, the whole school is invited to audition for the school musical, which is held in the spring. Directed by Joseph Kemper and vocally trained by music director Curtis Powell, actors in school musical theater productions rehearse from January-March for 8-10 hours per week. Recent productions include Hairspray and The Wedding Singer. Students interested in theater are also encouraged to prepare solos, duets, small group numbers, or large group numbers to perform in front of judges at the district thespian festival. Those who receive a superior rating at the district competition advance to compete at the state level. |
"The performance of theater is a universal cultural phenomenon that exists in every society around the world. Understanding theater helps us understand what it means to be human." |
